The city of Como (on Lake Como) is a very popular tourist destination in Northern Italy among weekend visitors from Switzerland & Germany. Due to its close proximity to the Swiss border, many people own holiday homes on the lake.
All the towns and villages on Lake Como are connected by water taxi or hydrofoils. For an areal view of the whole lake and surrounding areas, be sure to contact Como’s very own (and the oldest float plane club in the world!) Float Plane Club for a very informative tour.
The small village of Brunate (about 1 800 people) offer spectacular views across Como from the mountain top and can be reached by a small rail car departing from Como.
If you happen to be in Como (or somewhere on the lake) on a Sunday, hop on the water taxi to Cernobbio to visit the big Sunday market.
